It's the way we think, act, speak, and love one another. It's in the way we raise our families, love our community, and seek the good of others before ourselves. Here's what makes Belmont Foursquare Church unique.
Jesus Christ is eternally God. He was together with the Father and the Holy Spirit from the beginning, and through Him all things were made. For man’s redemption, He left heaven and became incarnate by the Holy Spirit through the virgin Mary; henceforth, He is forever one Christ with two natures—God and man—in one person.
We believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is totally loving and completely holy.
The Holy Spirit is God, the Lord and giver of life, who was active in the Old Testament and given to the Church in fullness at Pentecost. He empowers the saints for service and witness, cleanses man from the old nature and conforms us to the image of Christ. The baptism in the Holy Spirit, subsequent to conversion, releases the fullness of the Spirit and is evidenced by the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
We believe that sin has separated each of us from God and His purpose for our lives. We are born in sin because of our first father Adam, and through his fall, we all inherited the curse of death and eternal separation from God.
Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life, then died on the cross on our behalf as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. In order to receive forgiveness and a fresh start with God, we must repent of our sins, believe in Jesus as Lord, and commit to His will for our lives as we obey all that He commands.
We believe in the power and significance of the Church and the necessity of believers to meet regularly together as we are instructed in the Scriptures. The church is where we have a family of families, living in obedience to Christ. We do this by learning from His word, singing praises to Him, and praying with and for each other, bearing one another's burdens.
ABOUT BELMONT FOURSQUARE
Where we began: Reverend Charles Robertson held the first tent meeting in September 1940. The following winter the meetings were moved to the Eagle Mill Village Club House and the church was organized with 5 members. In 1941, the first $10 was given toward building the church facility. In 1945 the church was officially chartered.
From then until now: In approximately 1946 the first church building was constructed. The congregation continued to grow and groundbreaking began in 1955 for the building; which now facilitates the Family Life Center, Kid’s Church, Nursery, Pre-School and other classrooms. In 1984, due to enormous growth, groundbreaking began for a new sanctuary, Pastoral and administrative offices and was dedicated in May 1985. This building venture converted the existing sanctuary built in 1955 into the kitchen and Family Life Center. The balcony from the sanctuary was also enclosed during this time to create an additional room, now a game room for the Kid’s Church.Through the years the church has acquired several pieces of property on Elizabeth Street and in 1999 acquired the property where the Aldridge Community Life Center now sits.
Belmont today: Belmont Foursquare Church serves the community and partners with Local Schools, Parks & Rec, Belmont Police Department and many other groups and organizations for the use of its facilities on an ongoing basis.
ABOUT THE FOURSQUARE CHURCH
What is foursquare: The Foursquare Church is a pentecostal Christian denomination. It’s a worldwide movement that includes over 5 million members, over 60,000 churches and nearly 60,000 ministers worldwide. We have a passion to introduce Jesus Christ – the Savior, the Healer, the Baptizer with the Holy Spirit, and the Soon-Coming King – to every person, in every nation, in every culture.
The history of foursquare: In 1918 an evangelist named Aimee Semple McPherson settled her traveling ministry in Los Angeles. Five years later, the 5,300-seat Angelus Temple was dedicated and became a center of healing, renewal and social outreach, as well as the birthplace of The Foursquare Church, which was founded in 1923. The Foursquare Church continued to grow, reaching 521 churches in 1949, and over 60,000 today.
The founder of foursquare: The early 20th century evangelist, Aimee Semple McPherson, was a pioneer of women in religion. Having experienced a profound religious conversion at age 17, Aimee began preaching across the United States and later, the world. In 1918, she established her base in Los Angeles, Calif., where in 1923, the 5,300 seat Angelus Temple was dedicated and became the center of her revival, healing and benevolent ministries. She was the first woman to own and operate a Christian radio station. Her sermons were the first to incorporate the contemporary communications of that day into her preaching of the Gospel. From Angelus Temple she performed an extensive social ministry, providing hot meals for more than 1.5 million people during the Great Depression. She summarized her message into four major points known as “The Foursquare Gospel,” and founded a denomination called The Foursquare Church.
The Foursquare name: “Foursquare” is a Biblical term used of the tabernacle in the Book of Exodus, of the Temple of the Lord in Ezekiel 40:47, and of Heaven, as described in the book of the Revelation. The term “Foursquare Gospel” was given in the inspiration of revival to the denomination’s founder, Aimee Semple McPherson, during an evangelistic campaign in Oakland, California, in 1922. It represents that which is equally balanced on all sides, established and enduring. Such confidence in the power of the Gospel is also expressed by the verse, Hebrews 13:8, displayed in Foursquare churches proclaiming, “Jesus Christ the Same, Yesterday and Today and Forever.”
The name represents the four-fold ministries of Jesus:
The Savior – “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him…” – Isaiah 53:5 (Titus 2:14; Isaiah 55:7; Hebrews 7:25; Isaiah 1:18)
The Baptizer with the Holy Spirit – “For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit… you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” – Acts 1:5,8 (John 14:16-17; Acts 2:4; Acts 8:17; Acts 10:44-46; 1 Corinthians 3:16)
The Healer – “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses…” – Matthew 8:17 (Mark 16:17-18; Matthew 9:5-6; Acts 4:29-30)
The Soon-Coming King – “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout… the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” – 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (Titus 2:12-13; Matthew 24:36-44; Hebrews 9:28; Luke 19:13; Luke 12:35-37)
